Jazz Aspen Snowmass is seeking a Director of Finance, or Controller that can grow into the Director position, to handle the multifaceted accounting responsibilities of this growing organization.

JAS currently produces two summer festivals (June and Labor Day), along with various smaller performances, runs a summer Academy and supports local educational initiatives throughout the year. In the Winter of 2025, they will be opening a permanent JAS Center to increase local programming and are looking for someone who can grow with the organization. Up to $30MM in financing is already secured for the JAS Center, and construction is underway with planned grand opening in December 2025.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administers all operations of the Accounting Department, which include journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, financial reports.
  • Manages capitalization of assets and construction draws for new JAS Center.
  • Oversees artist and vendor contracts.
  • Maintains business insurance policies: liability, director/officer, key-man, cyber, health.
  • Handles Human Resources needs for full-time staff, with 150 June/Labor Day weekend staff: hiring paperwork, benefits, worker’s compensation.
  • Files quarterly and annual reports payroll and 1099 reporting.
  • Compiles the annual budget through collaboration with the CEO, COO, SVP and department heads.
  • Works with external auditors and provides the information needed for the annual audit and form 990; files periodic reports to SOS.
  • Oversees IT needs for organization.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working understanding of GAAP, especially as it applies to nonprofit accounting.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Ten years or more of related experience required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Available to work in Aspen and Snowmass as needed.
