Top student jazz musicians from across the Western Slope will gather in Carbondale February 10-11 for the annual JAS District 8 Honor Jazz Program, sponsored by Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Taking place at Roaring Fork High School, this annual event includes two days of intensive jazz training, workshops and rehearsals, led by professional musicians and educators of such programs as the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts, Colorado Mesa University, the University of Northern Colorado, Rockley Music Education Center and more.
On Saturday, February 10 from 5-7pm the students hard work will be showcased in a free public performance at Roaring Fork High School. Divided into four bands and one choir group, the students come from Middle and High Schools throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, Rifle, New Castle, Palisade, Eagle/Vail, Summit County, Steamboat Springs and more.
“It’s really amazing to see these groups of young students who have never performed as a group before come together in less than 48 hours for a live show, a really great live show,” says Andrea Beard, JAS Senior Vice President. “We strongly encourage the community to come out and enjoy the music while supporting the continued growth of jazz education in our Valley and beyond.”
