Congratulations to our Winners!

Big thanks to all the students who shared their music with us this year. Once again, the amount of talent was astounding and we can’t wait to hear more from you all soon! Below is a list of the winners and their songs, including our Grand Prize winner and Honorable Mention broken out by Middle and High School. Enjoy the music from these young talents!

HIGH SCHOOL – Grand Prize

Stella Pliska – Future Me

Hey! My name is Stella and I am a 15-year-old from Toronto, Canada. I have loved singing and music for as long as I can remember. I play guitar, ukulele, and piano, and I currently attend an arts high school for vocal music. I actually only started songwriting in December of this year, when I was inspired by a lot of pressure and events that were happening in my life. ‘Future Me’ was the first song I had ever written. Since then, songwriting has become a favorite hobby of mine, and a way to articulate and express my feelings. Thank you so much Jazz Aspen Snowmass for this incredible opportunity. I am so honored!

HIGH SCHOOL – Honorable Mention

Makai Yllanes – Colorblind

I began learning music at 8 years old with piano lessons. By middle school, I joined band and learned the trombone. After that, I began trying new instruments; first drums, then bass, and finally guitar. I began songwriting at the start of high school, inspired by my sister who had been writing songs for a few years. I continue to play a variety of instruments, writing and recording music in my free time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL – Grand Prize

Selah Williams – Just Try

Hi! My name is Selah, and I have loved music for as long as I can remember. Everyone in my family of 12 loves music! One of my favorite things to do is to sing karaoke with my older sisters or sit around and practice guitar together. I also enjoy playing volleyball and writing music. This year I am buying my own guitar so that I can continue writing music and playing. Thank you so much for listening to my song and thank you JAS for this incredible opportunity!

MIDDLE SCHOOL – Honorable Mention

El Waller – Is It a Lie

I started writing songs in 5th grade. Since then I always wanted to learn how to record them more professionally. In 7th grade I started learning Protools with the help of my teacher Hayden Arp. It has been so fun to be able to record and produce my own songs.
