JAS Introduces “Salsa Nights” at the Paul JAS Center
Free lessons and dance nights throughout the summer
Jazz Aspen Snowmass has partnered with Mezcla Socials Dance to bring Salsa Nights back to Aspen. The first event will take place as part of the new Paul JAS Center’s Tuesday Community Nights, on July 7th with free lessons for all levels. Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to sharpen your moves, the Mezcla Socials Dance instructors will guide you every step of the way. No partner or experience needed, just come ready to dance anytime between 6-8pm that evening.
A second night for free lessons will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 4th featuring live music from the JAS Academy Afro-Caribbean Sessions bands, with a final night of lessons on Tuesday, Sept. 15, both also from 6-8pm.
JAS has also scheduled two free “Salsa After Dark” parties, both coinciding with JAS Café performances featuring similar musicial styles. The first will be on Saturday, Aug. 8th from 10:30pm-12am, following the JAS Academy Afro-Caribbean Big Band JAS Café performance with Etienne Charles.
The second will be on Friday, Sept. 18 following Denver based Salsa band Orquesta La Brava. You do not need a ticket to the earlier performance to attend the Salsa After Dark party but tickets are available for the shows at https://jazzaspensnowmass.org/tickets/
Brian and Claudia Pawl founded Mezcla Socials Dance in 2015 with a mission of bringing people together through dance. Their events highlight how a dance community can break down barriers simply by showing up. The duo led Salsa Nights at Jimmy’s Restaurant in Aspen for many years and have embraced that inspiration and created something new for the community to keep the dance spark alive.
Advance RSVPs are recommended for all salsa events and can be made on the JAS calendar under each event at: https://jazzaspensnowmass.org/events/
