A group of extremely talented young jazz musicians are headed to Carbondale this weekend for the JAS District Eight Honor Jazz Band, sponsored by Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Taking place February 3-4 at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale the event showcases over one hundred Middle and High School student musicians and vocalists, representing multiple schools from throughout the District (Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Waldorf, Eagle, New Castle, Palisade, Steamboat Springs, Summit County, Granby, and Rifle). Over the two days they will participate in intensive jazz training, including instructional workshops and rehearsals, with a faculty of professional musicians provided by JAS.
On Saturday, February 4 at 5pm the public is invited to a FREE performance at Roaring Fork High School which will feature these outstanding students and the faculty performing live together for the first time.
“The Honor Jazz program offers a great opportunity for students to meet other like-minded musicians and form friendships that last for years,” says Andrea Beard, JAS Senior Vice President. “JAS is extremely proud to be able to support the growth of the student musicianship and overall understanding and appreciation of jazz.”
