LISTEN TO DUMPSTAPHUNK
Dumpstaphunk stands out among New Orleans’ best, cementing themselves as one of the funkiest bands to emerge from the Crescent City. Born on the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival stage in 2003 and descended from the legendary Neville and Meters musical families, the band delivers deep, gritty grooves rooted in New Orleans funk traditions.
Led by Ivan Neville on Hammond B3 organ and vocals, alongside cousin Ian Neville on guitar, Dumpstaphunk combines complex funk, rock, and jazz arrangements with soulful melodies and powerful rhythms. The band’s signature sound features dual bass lines, dynamic vocals, and four-part harmonies, drawing comparisons to Sly & the Family Stone while establishing a musical identity all their own.
Dumpstaphunk has performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival every year since 2003 and toured internationally, appearing at major festivals including Bonnaroo, Fuji Rock Festival, Byron Bay Bluesfest, and Jam Cruise. The band has shared stages with The Rolling Stones and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, with guest appearances over the years from Carlos Santana, Bob Weir, Chaka Khan, Trombone Shorty, and many others.
With exceptional musicianship, infectious grooves, and an unmistakable New Orleans sound, Dumpstaphunk continues to carry the city’s funk legacy forward.
