Morgan James has a voice that demands to be heard. From belting out standards on a karaoke machine as a fifth grader to building a career spanning Broadway, jazz, soul, and R&B, James has always followed her own musical path.

After hearing her sing as a child, her grandmother recognized her talent and paid for voice lessons, setting James on a journey that would take her to Juilliard, Broadway, and stages around the world. Known for her powerful vocals and fearless interpretations, James has made a career of reimagining familiar songs, from the Beatles to classic rock, while making each one distinctly her own.

Her latest project, Soul Remains the Same, puts a soulful, female perspective on rock songs originally performed by artists including AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam. “Something I’ve always loved, and I’ve done throughout my career, is sing songs that are not just written by men, but especially made for men,” she says. “And make them my own.”
