Discover Raúl Midón: A One-Man Music Marvel
If you’re a lover of genre-bending artistry, stunning musicianship, and soulful authenticity, Raúl Midón is an artist you need to know.
Blind since birth, Midón has built a career defined not by limitation, but by boundless musical curiosity. A virtuoso guitarist and dynamic vocalist, he’s renowned for his ability to sound like an entire band using only his voice, guitar, and a few clever techniques—including his jaw-dropping “mouth trumpet,” a vocal imitation of a muted jazz horn that has become one of his trademarks.
His style is nearly impossible to pigeonhole. Drawing from jazz, soul, folk, R&B, Latin, and pop, Midón creates a sound that’s uniquely his own. His 2005 major-label debut State of Mind featured a mix of feel-good grooves, poetic songwriting, and improvisational spark—earning him early comparisons to Stevie Wonder, who has since become a mentor and supporter.
Midón’s skill has earned him multiple Grammy nominations in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category for Bad Ass and Blind and If You Really Want, the latter featuring the acclaimed Metropole Orkest. And while many artists rely on producers and engineers, Midón records much of his music in a self-designed home studio equipped with accessibility tools for blind users—proving once again that he thrives at the intersection of independence and innovation.
He’s collaborated with jazz legends like Herbie Hancock, R&B greats like Bill Withers, and modern pop artists like Jason Mraz, all while maintaining his own distinct voice—both literally and musically.
Whether he’s performing solo or backed by a full orchestra, Raúl Midón invites you into a world where rhythm, melody, and meaning meet. For music lovers seeking authenticity, technical brilliance, and a powerful message, Midón is not just an artist to listen to—he’s an artist to experience.
About his most recent work
Released in early 2024, Lost & Found is Raúl Midón’s most personal and poetic album to date. Self-produced in his home studio, the record blends soul, jazz, and acoustic storytelling with themes of resilience, introspection, and creative freedom. The title track was inspired by the writing of Bob Dylan, and across the album, Midón leans into stripped-down arrangements that spotlight his masterful guitar work and unmistakable voice.
Standout tracks include:
“Lost & Found” – a poignant meditation on identity and rediscovery.
“If You Want Me To” – a groove-heavy track that showcases his rhythmic inventiveness.
“Eclipse” – a delicate ballad that highlights his lyrical depth.
The album has been praised for its emotional honesty and sonic warmth, continuing Midón’s tradition of creating genre-defying music with deep heart and high-level craft.
