LEARN JAZZ MUSIC

In 2017 JAS initiated a broad new effort with the goal of expanding the organization’s music education programs from the classroom to the community, inspiring knowledge in students of all ages and building a future audience for jazz and related forms of music. The initiatives include the JAS Listen Up! Pre-concert discussions, in which artists performing at the JAS Café discussing their personal histories and the history of the origin of the music they will perform.

Free for ticket buyers of the shows, Listen Up! Talks will start 45 minutes prior to showtime. JAS is also expanding its use of historic context for all JAS Café artists, combining relevant music facts along with artist bios and playlists. There will be additional pre-concert blog and social media posts with illuminating inside stories about the music, while the JAS Café Corner will continue to be an ongoing “go to” resource for interested JAS attendees to continue their musical education.

Summer 2023 JAS Cafe Series

This summer will feature performances at 7pm and 9:15pm with all 7pm performances including an Artist Listen Up! talk prior to the show, at 6:15pm. These talks feature the artists in discussions about their personal histories and the origins of the music they will perform.
