JAS Academy Second Session will Perform in their Small Groups!

Friday, August 6th, 7 – 9pm @ the “Sister Cities Plaza” (plaza located next to Wagner Park in Aspen by the bathrooms, off the Cooper St. Mall)

On top of working as a Big Band under the direction of Christian McBride, our 23 students were split into 3 smaller ensembles. In these groups they worked and played together, forming their own style and identity. Learn a little more about each group below:

The Nimbus Nonet

The Nimbus Nonet consists of members from around the world aiming to master the constraints of time and space. With influences consisting of Israeli, Latin/Afro-Cuban, and Black American music, Nimbus intends to uphold the integrity of a multicultural palette while delving into the improvisatory realm. On top of establishing a cohesive group energy, their music is a sonic experience that extends a sense of community to listeners from every walk of life.

Swerve

Swerve is a group of musicians creating original music to touch the humanity of our audiences. Our open-mindedness and collaborative nature makes our ensemble unique. Our instrumentation includes voice as a blended texture as well as more conventional lyric-based singing. Our strong versatility and spontaneity help us to connect with people in provocative and meaningful ways.

Elevation

The mission of the Elevation Combo is to bring forth the beautiful reminder that music is more than just sounds. It is an incredible opportunity  that invites listeners to engage in genuine emotion, release, and freedom for everyone to participate in a universal language that brings people from all around the world together in harmony, happiness, and love.

We continue this mission through showcasing refreshing original compositions written by various members of our group that utilize intricate melodies and harmonies that submerge listeners into an incredible, personable universe of a musical escape.
