Jasim Perales

Trombonist Jasim Perales, a native of Oakland, California, started playing trombone in the fourth grade, and was exposed to jazz while attending the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music Summer Program, under the tutelage of Angela Wellman. He furthered his music education while attending Oakland School of the Arts, and later Berkeley High School. Jasim has played in various settings with such esteemed professionals as Richard Howell, Joshua Redman, Mary Stallings, Melissa Aldana, Bob Mintzer, Robin Eubanks, Sean Jones, David Sanchez, Steve Turre, Wynton Marsalis, Ted Nash, Terri Lyne Carrington, John Clayton, Gerald Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Frank Lacy, Lenny White, Reggie Workman, and the O’Jays. Jasim was also a five-year member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars program. Jasim has been a member of the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, Vail Jazz Workshop, and GRAMMY Band, and has toured with these ensembles in Canada, Japan, and Cuba (with the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble). A few years ago, he was recognized as a YoungArts Merit Award winner. He currently studies at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of musicians such as Steve Turre, Jason Jackson, Elliot Mason, Frank Kimbrough, and Wynton Marsalis. Jasim Perales is a recipient of a Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at The Juilliard School.
