JAS HITS NYC!

Last week a group of JAS Staff and National Council members hit the big city in a whirlwind tour of some of New York’s hottest jazz clubs, restaurants and museums. The trip, curated by JAS President Jim Horowitz, gave attendees an inside look at many of the places that helped inspire the JAS Cafe. It was also an opportunity to see from Jim how he goes about scouting many of the amazing acts that have appeared on the JAS Cafe stage in Aspen.
On top of that is was a wonderful gathering of JAS friends, new and old, on what turned out to be an unseasonably beautiful weekend in the City that never sleeps! Here are a few highlights, find more on our Facebook page here.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Tour: Possibly the highlight of the weekend, our group took a tour at JALC led by the organizations Director of Operations who gave background on the state of the art architecture and infrastructure that was put into this enormous project. We visited each of the three performance rooms (including the Appel Room, the view of which you can see below) as well as recording studios and practice rooms, all leaving astounded at what we had learned.

B.B. King Blues Club: Grammy nominated jazz saxophonist Boney James brought the entire room at B.B. King Blues Club to their feet with an amazing performance on Friday night.
D’Angelcio Guitars Showroom: A special thanks to JAS sponsor D’Angelico Guitars for hosting the group at their beautiful showroom for a cocktail party. It’s pretty hard to explain just how special this place is, but don’t worry, they will soon be opening a pop-up shop in Aspen so you’ll have your chance to check them out!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on this special trip! We look forward to doing it again soon!
